The Parish Kilbegnet and Ballinakill (Glinsk)

St Marys Church Kilbegnet

The Church in Kilbegnet is called St. Mary’s but it is popularly known as “Kilbegnet” or  Croswell” Church as the original Church is situated in the townland of Kilbegnet. The ruins of the old Church can still be seen in the “old” graveyard in Kilbegnet. Later a church was built at Croswell crossroads. The current Church is situated in the townland of Gurrane.

The current church was erected on its present site in 1839 with The Very Rev Andrew Egan, seeing to completion the work commenced by Very Rev John O Brien. The Church was built with the sacrifices of the people of the community and bears testimony of the piety of the parishioners at the time.

The Church was reconstructed in 1963 by the Very Rev Martin Lohan. At the time the Parochial House which was much closer to the road was demolished and a new one built to make space for a car park.

St Michael’s Church – Glinsk

The Church of St Michael’s (Ballinakill) Glinsk and is built in the townland of Keelogues beg. The current Church was built in 1843 by the Very Rev J Harrington.
